World Humanitarian Day: When seeing clearly demands action
THE BRIEF
UNOCHA needed a campaign with the moral clarity and emotional force to turn a global audience’s grief into demand.
In 2024, 281 humanitarian workers were killed in the line of duty – the deadliest year on record for the people who deliver aid in the world’s most dangerous places. As the death toll rose, accountability did not keep pace. When World Humanitarian Day approached, UNOCHA needed more than awareness. They needed outrage, directed precisely at the leaders with the power to act.
THE CREATIVE
The message was clear: attacks must stop, impunity must end, and it is time to #ActForHumanity. At the heart of the campaign was a one-minute flagship film narrated by Syrian activist and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Muzoon Almellehan. An educational photographic series centred on destroyed hospitals, schools, challenging audiences not to look away. All campaign elements lived on a dedicated microsite at 2024.worldhumanitarianday.org, giving audiences a single destination to engage, share, and add their voices to the demand.
THE IMPACT
The flagship film reached 2.9 million views across UNOCHA’s channels and was shared by partners worldwide. #ActForHumanity created a coordinated, global call for leaders to confront the consequences of their inaction.
