Breaking Barriers: How can mobile internet help a farmer read the sky?
THE BRIEF
3.1 billion people live within reach of mobile broadband but cannot use it.
Not because of coverage, but because the knowledge, skills, and confidence to harness it remain just out of reach. The GSMA needed advocacy content that could move policymakers at WTEC 2025, yet still honour the people whose lives sit behind the statistics.
THE CREATIVE
Working alongside SMART Communications and local programme partners, we travelled to the Philippines to film four interconnected stories. Ferdinand, a 58-year-old rice farmer who learned to read the sky from his phone. Monaliza, a young Higaonon beadmaker who found the courage to post her first photo. We shaped each story around the rhythm of their days, and the apps that changed their lives. Working with communities to choose what to show and how, ensuring the films sat with people, not above them. Hero edits, social cuts, and a photographic library together form a campaign that will last beyond a single event.

THE IMPACT
Monaliza’s monthly income has risen from PHP 2,000 to PHP 15,000. Ferdinand’s harvest has jumped from 70 sacks per hectare to 200. Datu Masikal now livestreams tribal rituals so elders too frail to climb the mountain can still take part. Monaliza speaks of pride where she once felt shame. These are the threads the campaign carries into rooms where digital inclusion policy is decided, helping to turn awareness into action, and shifting the conversation from coverage maps to the changemakers already proving what is possible when the barriers come down.
